EV technology course
Kyle Conner (Out of Spec) managed to interview eleven (11!) engineers at Lucid Motors.

In addition to Lucid Air Sapphire and Lucid Gravity motors, in the video it’s possible to see the motors of other electric cars like Rimac Nevera, Tesla Model S Plaid, Porsche Taycan, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Mercedes EQS. For technology enthusiasts, the following is a truly fantastic entertainment. In the interview, all the engineers talk super passionately about the things they have came up with, built, and implemented in production. This video will charge you with energy:
If the Out of Spec video turned you on, here’s more good stuff for you from Lucid Motors:
Course on battery technology
Battery cells need to be connected both in series and in parallel—series connection provides the required voltage, while parallel connection ensures the necessary energy capacity.
Course on inverter technology
An inverter is a “box” that converts direct current (DC) from the battery into alternating current (AC) for the motor.
Course on drive unit technology
The drive unit is not just the motor; it consists of several components:
- Inverter
- Electric motor
- Differential – ensures that when cornering, the outer wheel rotates faster and the inner wheel slower, as they have to cover different distances.
- Reduction gear – reduces the high rotational speed of the electric motor to a suitable speed for the driving wheels.
