2027 Electric Mercedes-AMG GT

Article by Tobias Selerit

The 4-door AMG coupé proves that high-performance electric vehicles are emotional, dramatic, and driver-focused.

Visually, the new GT stays true to the idea of a “GT for four” — a long, low grand tourer that combines supercar attitude with genuine everyday usability. The car is 5.1 m long and has elegant proportions. Despite the 106 kWh usable capacity battery inside the floor, AMG engineers have managed something especially impressive: the roof of the car is 1.6″/4 cm lower than on the previous gasoline-powered 4-door AMG GT. That lower stance gives the car a sleeker silhouette enthusiasts appreciate.

AMG has also packaged the battery intelligently. No batteries were placed under the rear passenger foot area to leave more space — that’s important in a genuine grand tourer.

The engineering work has been epic. The new YASA axial-flux motors are astonishingly compact for the power they produce: the front axle motor is only 3.5″/9 cm wide, while the two rear motors each measure 3.1″/8 cm in width. Yet despite their tiny dimensions, the motors are capable of total output exceeding 1,000 kW in future applications.

Charging performance is equally ambitious. The car supports up to 600 kW peak charging, allowing as much as 41 kWh to be added in just 5 minutes under ideal conditions — a figure that pushes EV charging into entirely new territory.

But the biggest surprise may come from the soundtrack.

Electric performance cars are brutally fast, yet many still struggle to deliver the emotional connection created by a combustion engine. AMG tackles that problem with simulated gear changes and AMG GTR-inspired sound signature. The experience is designed to satisfy drivers who love the drama of V8-powered performance cars. The concept was famously pioneered by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, whose playful simulated shifts and engineered sound effects proved that the computer game-like experience can genuinely put a huge smile on a driver’s face.

Mercedes-AMG captures that same sense of excitement while pairing it with the brand’s traditional refinement and enhanced agility thanks to rear-wheel steering.

AMG also gives drivers unusually deep control over the car’s behavior. The set of three rotary knobs in the centre console — called “Race Engineer” — allows precise adjustment of response, traction, and cornering characteristics, giving the car a level of tunability rarely seen outside racing cars.

The electric 4-door AMG GT genuinely satisfies both luxury car buyers and hardcore driving enthusiasts.

From its dramatically low body and futuristic charging speeds to its emotionally engineered sound experience and racing-inspired settings, this car covers everything.

Considering there is no place for carbon emissions, this is a true rebirth for Mercedes-AMG.
